Mineral composition and GC-MS analysis of Fatty acid methyl esters, carotenoids and sterols in stem bark and leaves of Boswellia dalzielli Hutch.

ABSTRACT
The mineral analysis of Boswellia dalzielli stembark was performed following standard procedures. The results of the studies revealed that some macroelements found include calcium (98.64 mg/g extract), sodium (11.71mg/g extract) and Iron (8.46mg/g extract); while the microelements seen include manganese (0.52mg/g extract) and lead (0.32mg/g extract). Other microelements present were copper, chromium, cadmium, zinc, nickel and cobalt. Mineral analysis of Boswellia dalzielli leaf detected potassium (4521.8 ppm), magnesium (3315.9ppm) and calcium (1825.4ppm). Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis of Boswellia dalzielli leaves for fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) unveiled the presence of significant amounts of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids among others, appreciable amounts of sitosterol (4.95 mg/100g) and beta-carotene (12.78μg/100g).
